Joe Simpson

He was born in Kula Lumpur, Federation of Malaysia, where his father was stationed with the British Army. From the age of 8, Simpson travelled between schools in Britain and various countries where his father was stationed. Hi was just 14 when he read The White Spider by Heinrich Harrer, which tells about climbing on the unconquered North Face of Eiger. Despite the inherent dangers of mountaineering describes in this book, this reading sparked a passion for the mountains in the young man.

Alain Robert

“Declare this activity a sport or a way of life, nevertheless something reserved for the few. Exagerate its most dangerous aspect, reducing it almost to a formula ‘succeed or die’. Dress it in ridiculous, almost cartoon-like garb, squeeze it into TV prime time, drag it away from rocks and gyms and try to practice it on skyscrapers. Finally, and it will sound as an ultimate offence both for an ordinary city dweller as well as for an eager rock climber, pay for it dearly and make it a steady source of income!.” - this is what Fabio Palma, author of The Soloists, wrote about the guest of The 7th Mountain Film Festival - Meetings with Mountain Film.
